Note personnelle:

Note 2 :

Un chien a été "empoisonné" au WDS. Il a lutté longtemps, mais maintenant ses jours ne sont plus en danger. :-)

Ольга Грошева

I want to tell you a story that happened to us at this World Dog Show. Hope it will help to clarify things, and perhaps this could be a lesson for someone.

Part 1. The show

We took three South Russian Shepherds to this show. Two females and a puppy. Our friends who live stayed in Germany not far from show place came to support us. We also had our handler Алексей Мальцев, his wife and assistant in a group. It was quite big team of supporters. Why do I write this? Just to make clear that the dogs did not stay without attention even for a split second. We did not place the boxes and cages, they lay on a huge warm carpet and their leashes were always in someone's hands. The ring began. First the puppy was shown. Then the bitch in the class of champions, Tema. She was active and courageous in half an hour before the ring, when our handler trained her. There were many witnesses for it. She went into the ring and after a couple of minutes she became sluggish. When the examination of the teeth took place, the handler noticed that the mucous membranes became pale. And Tema also started to lose stability in one of behind legs. When the judge asked to show movements, she ran very slowly. The judge noted her excellent anatomy, but because of the lack of temperament and enthusiasm in movements, she got the 3rd place in her class. The next class was open, where our second bitch was shown, she won it as well as competition for World Winner title. 2 persons from our team were with Tema that moment. She drank some water, but behaved strangely. I returned to her and decided to take her outside of the hall. She walked slowly and she wanted to lie down. We began to discuss what could be wrong with her. We didn't have any ideas or theories. The dog felt great In the morning. A woman that was also following the ring came to say that maybe it's an influence of the evil eye. It sounds funny in a way, but we could not understand the situation. We decided to wait for the ring documents, take a photo of our winning girl and go to the hotel with the rest of the dogs, see how will Tema feel and maybe contact the clinic if it will be necessary. Tema was lying on the carpet and snoring peacefully. When we called her by name, she wagged her tail. Having all things done, we began to pack or baggage and tried to wake up Tema. She hardly got up and then "crawled" on the floor. We ran to look for a vet at the show. We found him, took to Tema and after a thorough check, he became very nervous. She heart was almost stopped. This brave man saved our dog. Emergency actions that he was able to organize in just 10 minutes in the show conditions were simply amazing. His English was poor and we talked through an interpreter who was called and translator app on the phone. After an hour of emergency therapy (therapy lasted more than 2 hours) representatives of the organizers came to us, they talked with the doctor and expressed compassion for us. And after they left, the doctor spoke completely different things. He suggested shock, conducting the same therapy while that. Her heart did not want to work, the body temperature dropped. Doctors changed bottles and injected. After two hours of fight for life, Tema started to feel better. With great difficulty, but got to her feet. It was decided to give her blood and urine tests for toxins and check her heart on a cardiac monitor. We voiced our desire to the vet. He approved this and he gave us the address of the clinic.

Part 2. Veterinary clinic

We arrived to the veterinary clinic. A young trainee met as at the reception, she spoke English fluently. We explained what happened and what we need. She said that it's all possible to do. BUT, you have to wait because the clinic has only one doctor. Half an hour later we received a form for the data entry, which we had to fill in for the visit. The trainee took the form and left us for another hour! Meanwhile a another dog in a waiting room gave birth to three puppies on the cold floor and no one even suggested a diaper. Its owners, the Germans, were very indignant, but said that there was no other clinic in this area. Later, another dog came, possibly with a swelling. She was very sick and just writhed in the waiting room for almost two hours. So, an hour or more passed and we were invited to the examination room. There we were met by another trainee who measured the temperature, felt the pulse and collected an anamnesis (it took her almost 40 min). Then she left. The doctor was running around all the time and finally gave attention to a dog with new born puppies. It took another half an hour and finally the doctor came to us. We explained everything happened to us in a third time. And then she said that only a specialist can work on a cardio monitor, but he will work on Monday. And they can do only ordinary (not for toxins) test of blood and urine. We tried to ask to take a tissue and then transfer it to some kind of laboratory. The doctor said that they will do the toxicological study only hold if the dog dies. Then, at the autopsy, the tissue will be taken for analysis. We asked our friend Yuri Kharson for help and to explain that we need to do the analysis for toxins. I hoped that the doctor and I do not understand each other. But Yuri received the same answer. Many thanks to him for his help. The doctor's answer was negative. Because tissue recovery, it's storage and transportation can be done only with requisition. If we had come to such "doctors" with almost dead Tema just a few hours ago at the show, she will be dead for sure. We were told that she received help on WDS, and it's possible to leave Tema in a clinic to observe her health condition. I didn't want to trust them my dog and we left for the hotel.

Part 3. For thought.

A bit of history Surprisingly similar story had happened at the World Dog Show 2013 in Budapest. South Russian Shepherds Olga Princess Lyuty (who became European Winner that year) lost consciousness right in the ring. She didn't have any health issues before but she dropped down in the ring and could not get up! She was taken to the vet clinic where all the same symptoms Tema had were found. When returned to Ukraine, she had a long medical treatment. Pyroplasmosis was called like one of possible reasons but it was not confirmed with official test. However, false information about babesias was spread all over internet. There are some participants who were present both in Leipzig and in Budapest. A lot of people in Leipzig noticed incorrect behavior of a group of people near the ring, who expressed certain threats to us. This is also a fact. Perhaps it's a strange coincidence, but all the breeders who came to me at the show or wrote to me with condolences about what happened after, suggest that only one and the same group of people are involved into these two stories.

Part 4. We are interested in all possible official statements and investigations. The organizers of the World Dog Show allowed to take the video recordings from security cameras, but due to German law this can be possible only after the statement to the police. To make a statement to a police we need to proof that she was poisoned with blood test or written doctor's conclusion. Why do not we have nothing from it due to the reasons I've already described. BUT, we do not drop our hands and look for other possible solutions to this situation. And most importantly, Teme is in the way home and where she will visit vet and will have a proper health check. Her health is my main priority now. Dear friends and colleagues. If you have read it to the end, I would like to say you THANKS once again for all you prays and words of support for me and Tema. You can't even imagine how much it helped me. Also, if you can help me with anything that will help to receive a video record, I will be very grateful. And who knows, maybe you will help to save another dog life at upcoming shows...
